The history of Schmid family reunions

At the last family reunion, Dianne and I had a discussion about when the first family reunion took place. The first one I remembered occurred sometime in the 50s and I remember it taking place on John's farm. My main memory of this was of milking a cow. I believe I was around 5 or 6. I have been researching past issues of the Tecumseh Chieftain and have an article of a 1948 reunion, which may have been the first. An article published in July 1953 explains that the death of Chris Schmid on June 26 brought together the family but also marked the cancellation of presumably a combined reunion that year and a golden wedding anniversary celebration for Chris and Rickie. I have information, mostly from Dianne's records, about many reunions. However, there appears to be a gap in details between 1959 and 1986. I remember attending at least one in the 60s but don't have more information about it at hand.
